In this episode, Tyler and Carmine discussed the practice and history of effectively communicating your ideas. Carmine described the psychology and traits that make an inspiring communicator, highlighting communication skills he’s learned from his entrepreneurial journey, including lessons from conversations with Howard Schultz, the co-founder and CEO of Starbucks, and Marc Randolph, the co-founder of Netflix. They also delved into the origins of storytelling and discussed some of history’s greatest communicators, such as Winston Churchill, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett:
“Warren Buffett was terrified of public speaking. He said he was so terrified of public speaking that he signed up for a public speaking course and he lost his money because he didn’t show up to the course. But he realized this is a skill he had to build in order to stand out and in order to further his career.”
Other topics included overcoming availability bias in times of crisis, the importance of courage and gratitude for entrepreneurs, daily exercise, the power of praise and more.
